CO₂ LASER

(Carbon Dioxide Laser)

The CO₂ laser operates with a gas laser tube emitting infrared light at a wavelength of ~10.6 μm, ideal for processing non-metallic materials.

How does the process work?

  • A gas mixture (CO₂, nitrogen, helium) is activated by electrical voltage.
  • Laser light is created in the infrared spectrum.
  • Light is directed via mirrors and lenses to the material.
  • Laser heat melts, vaporizes, or burns the surface layer—depending on the operation (cutting/engraving).

Applications of CO₂ lasers:

  • Primarily used for cutting, engraving, and marking non-metals:
  • Wood
  • All plastic types
  • Cardboard and paper
  • Leather and textiles
  • Glass and ceramics
  • Popular uses:
  • Gift personalization
  • Plastic cutting for advertising

Advantages of CO₂ lasers:

  • Fine, detailed cutting/engraving lines
  • Quiet, non-contact process
